Hi about 3 months
ago I bought a Lamp from another online store to replaced the original one
of my Samsung TV, two weeks after the lamp burned again, I called with the
complaint and they exchange the lamp with another who lasted 3 weeks, I
called again and they told me that the problem could be my TV. I called a
local TV technician and after a home service he found that my replacement
lamp was not OEM and that's what the problem was.
I will not buy
anything more from those people.
Now I need a
replacement Lamp for my bedroom Panasonic TV and I want to know if you
sell OEM lamps. Thanks for your time.
Jim

We received hundred
of these types of e-mail each month and although we never sold generic lamps
we want to add our finding to those questions.
From some time ago
we notice that some lamp distributors started selling generic projector
lamps for some of the most reputable brands of TV and projectors of the
market, we conducted a testing to know how good these aftermarket
lamps were. Our results were a total disappointment. Most generic lamps failed
after a few hundred hours in the best case. In others cases the color
quality is not like the original, but in almost all cases the life of
those lamps is significantly less than the original.
Maybe in years to comes there
will be viable generic lamps to consider, but what is more likely in the
short term is that OEMs will elect to sign contracts with these suppliers
if they can math OEM quality, but till now, I doubt they can pass any OEM
quality control.
Our testing
confirmed what we hear from customer who bought generic lamps. ALL generic
lamps failed before 800 hours of use.
We used 6 different
TV to test generic lamps.
1- Samsung HLN5065W1X
Lamp lasted 225 hours
2- Samsung HLN617WX
Lamp lasted 16 hours
3- Samsung HLN507WX
Lamp lasted 531 hours
4- Panasonic PT40LC12
Lamp lasted 412 hours
5- Panasonic PT50LC13
Lamp lasted 780 hours
6- Panasonic PT60LCX63
Lamp lasted 128 hours
All Units are working without
trouble with original lamps.
Another problem of
generic lamps is the risk of damage to your unit. Although, we didn't
experience damage units, these generic
lamps have the potential to
damage a projector beyond OEMs warranty and there is a risk of explosion
or fire.
Think about it. If
your unit caught on fire and burned your house, the OEM MFG won't be liable if
you used aftermarket parts on it.
How do you know if
your lamp
is generic or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) ?
This is one of the most
difficult task because generic brand are almost physically identical to OEM
lamps but most OEM factories use a specific barcode and bulb from the top
lamp manufactures like Philips, Osram or Ushio, Buy your lamp from a
reputable source and ask for OEM before buy it. If the price if
significantly less than OEM, then probably it will be a counterfeit or
generic lamp.
How generic lamps
compare in price to OEM Lamps ? Price is about 10% to 15% less than
the OEM Lamps. We don't sell, and never sold generic lamps, because
they aren't worth the hassle.
Our recommendation
is always to use OEM. Take special care with Ebay sellers and online
discount stores because a high number of them
are selling generic replacement lamps, without tell it to you, to raise the profit.
