National Professional
Service Convention 2005 |

Introduction
Landmarks events don't occur very often in
life, and as advancements in technology come and go, the
landmark evens come less frequently. Consider the area of
transportation. For centuries, we relied on the brute force
approach, while in the last 125 years we have gone from
horse-drawn carriages to steam powered and gas powered engines,
on to flight and eventually to space travel. The last major
landmark is now more than 30 years in the past, and it's
difficult to say what will happen next.
We can see similar progress in the realm of Electronics, and
narrowing things down a bit in the history of Televisions, there
have been a few major transitions over the past 50 or so years.
B/W TV to Color TV was a massive step forward. The transition
from tubes to solid states semiconductors came quite a bit
later, and to many technicians, it was hard to learn. The
benefits were all there, but it required quite a bit of effort
to realize them, and it wasn't until the introduction of
microprocessors, memory's, eeprom's and all
associate digital electronics, that we really saw the shift away
from the old analogue electronics to the new world of digital
electronics. Keep in mind that while there are many more
releases in the modern era, many of the releases are incremental
upgrades.The next transition is now
upon us. Of course we're talking about the digital display
devices (LCD, DLP, LCoS and Plasma), yes the 60 years old CRT
(Cathode Ray Tube) is dead. I didn't see any CRT
Television in the next release of new models. There is the
major transition since the invention of the
television. This year's NPSC (National Professional Service
Convention) focused on the advancements that the new display's
will bring, as well as taking a look at other technologies that
are due in the current year.
The new technology is a challenge to many
technicians and I feel the NPSC is the most important tool to keep us
updated. The seminar and manufacturers training course were
simply awesome.
NPSC '2005 in Orlando, on a scale of 1 to
10 scored 12 , as far as I'm concerned. The cost to go is
minimal compared to the training, friends relationships and
industry partners that I have now. NESDA staff worked very hard to get us to places where there is
something for the whole family...it's definitely not boring. The
manufacturer and distributor representatives were awesome.
If you are a technician or a owner of a
service center, please come with us, in the next convention. I
promise you never regret that decision.
I will post some pictures of the
convention, unfortunately I was busy taking the seminars, CET,
CSM test and I was unable to take enough pictures.
Note: the
last 4 pictures were taken at Downtown Disney the Friday at night
I have to give my sincerely
appreciation to Fernando, Ronnie and Jim from Tritronics, Inc
for all the help and support we received and all NESDA staff
like Patricia, Sheila, Brian Gibson and Fred Paradis,
congratulations to Fred and I am sure you will do an excellent
labor as President of Nesda like Brian did.
